Raena Chan is a senior and a 2nd year journalism student. She specializes in writing and has been interested in it since the 7th grade.
Her interest in writing comes from the freedom and creativity of it. "You can write about anything and you can create your own world,” she said. The Slice of Life books by Charles Dickens were a big inspiration for her writing, since she enjoyed reading them growing up.
Jane Austin, her favorite writer, is described by Chan as a funny, but still classy writer that she has always enjoyed reading. “I love the way she portrays the upper class society in the 1700’s,” said Chan.
Chan wrote a short story in English class last year about a dystopian world, which is her favorite piece of writing that she has written. “The Hunger Games movie inspired my writing, the creativity and intensity got me excited to write my own version,” she said.
