Sophomore Sebastian Fojut has always had an interest in science and engineering. Pursuing his passion, he participates in Odyssey of the Mind, a competition that tests problem-solving skills.
Fojut’s team, composed of fellow Campolindo students, qualified for the World Championships in both 2016 and 2017, placing 19th and 11th respectively.
In one competition, his team ended up building a 6-foot robot that could clap, spin, drum, and wave. “It was extremely difficult and my team fought a lot,” Fojut said. “Sometimes we had to work really late, but we were still able to get through it together.”
Through the competition, Fojut has traveled to both Iowa and Michigan and competed against teams all around the world. “The experience was really eye-opening, and it was fun to interact with kids our age from other countries,” he said.
In the future, Fojut hopes to enter a career in engineering. “I enjoy constructing things and being creative for the sense of accomplishment I get when I succeed,” he said.
