Annual Campo Night Live Performances Stun Audiences

Students act in a skit based on senior status.

From October 4th to the 7th, the drama class and tech crew hosted the annual production of Campo Night Live with four brave guest hosts. Directed and produced by senior Lauren Beld, senior Marissa Mahler, senior Logan Raymond, and junior KT Thompson, each performance captivated its audiences with the level of cohesion and enterprise exemplified by the students.

The CNL band opened with music reminiscent of the familiar Saturday Night Live theme song before the hosts gave a brief introduction. Senior Arjun Krishnan explained that this year’s performance had four different days with four different teacher hosts. “Each of the teachers would give a five minute monologue telling a bunch of jokes.” This year’s hosts were social studies teacher Dino Petrocco, English teacher Tom Duffy, science teacher Katie Guy, and librarian Liz Herring.

CNL can be described as an exciting black box theater production in which performers recreate scenes from Saturday Night Live, including the occasional spin on the company’s actual scripts. “Sometimes there’s small changes to them, usually little things to make it more relevant to our generation or adding a different prop,” said Krishnan.

The performing students had six weeks to prepare and rehearse, including after school hours, tech days, and dress rehearsals. The incredible amount of effort put in was greatly exemplified by the high level of performance quality.

“We have little rituals to do before the show when we get ready,” said Krishnan. But when asked about what these include, he said “I’m not actually allowed to say”. Leaving suspension and intrigue in the air, the Campo community is thrilled for next year’s performance.

About the Contributors
Parker Blau
Parker Blau, Social Media Manager
(she/her) Senior Parker Blau is the Social Media Manager for The Claw. Blau loves to write and has advanced her abilities a lot through practicing the journalistic style. Blau is excited to gain experience for a possible communications major as social media editor.  Blau was accepted into Oxford’s campus to participate in an intensive creative writing class this past summer. She was very grateful for the writing foundation journalism had supported her with while publishing a short story on Amazon as an ebook during the program.  Blau’s favorite aspect of the class is the artistic license provided by Mrs. Henson, differing from the standard writing opportunities offered at Campo. Blau is ready to continue exercising the creative freedom this class supplies.
Katie Welch
Katie Welch, Visual Media Editor
(she/her) Senior Katie Welch has been drawing since childhood, specifically drawing people. Welch has big dreams of becoming a graphic designer or a photographer. Both Welch’s father and sister are “big into art”, which influenced Welch to do art as a kid.  Welch said, “My favorite thing to do is hang with my family at home…because a lot of my family has similar artistic interests. We just hang out and make stuff.”  Besides drawing, Welch likes “to read and… sing.” She recently competed in Lamorinda Idol with her group “VI” and won the highschool category.  Welch is excited to make art for The Claw and said, “It’s nice to have deadlines for Journalism and it’ll help me with art because I’ll have to get stuff in, so that should be good.”
Sebastian Whitfield
Sebastian Whitfield, Photography Editor
(he/him) Senior Sebastian Whitfield has been an avid photographer for the last 5 years. Hoping to make use of 1 of his favorite hobbies, Whitfield joined Journalism his junior year and became Photography editor for his senior year. “You can capture the moment and cherish those memories forever,” he says. He finds both landscapes and people to be fascinating subjects for his photography, and hopes to pursue lifestyle and school event photography for The Claw. I like how many events Campo has to photograph and how much variety we have.
