Baseball
Summarizing the season, right fielder junior Maxwell Olson says, “This has been the best baseball season I think I’ve had…teams are really close to each other, and we’ve been having so much fun playing each other, and we’ve been winning.” While performance was satisfactory and expectations met, the team still has bigger goals and ways to improve: “We all feel that we could definitely have a better season with the amount of talent we have…teams goals for next season are to be in the same spot we are in now, going to D1 playoffs, which is hard because we’re losing a lot of upperclassmen this year,” Olsen says. Great performances helped them in their league and put them in the Division 1 playoff category, which has been long-awaited. Noteworthy performances are “Franklin Polichio hit two doubles against Acalanes…Tyler Rogers had a couple of great games against different teams…And Elias Dudum hit a walk-off home run against Green Valley Christian School.” A favorite moment this year for Olsen was when “I was on third base, and Cole Fischer hit an absolute laser over the left fielder against Acalanes, and we scored two runs off of it,” said Olson.

Golf
Senior Reid Habas describes this year’s golf season as “worth it” and “fun.” He said, “So far the season has gone well, with success against Miramonte and Acalanes and only two losses.” He also noted some standout performances from players, senior Leo McDonough and senior Brody Reed, with multiple shots under par, helping them win crucial matches. With a large tournament coming up, expectations are unclear. Habas said, “I think we’ll really meet our expectations if we win NCS, with a bunch of great teams all around the North Coast Section that we’re going to be playing in that tournament. So I think if we come out on top in NCS, we’ll meet our expectations.” With their star lineup being made up of all seniors, the future of the team is uncertain. “We’re losing basically our whole starting lineup. So next year will be interesting to see how they do,” Habas explained.

Boys Lacrosse
The boys’ lacrosse season was an eventful and fiery one for the team. Senior Rhett Hollyfield described the season as “hard but fun.” He explained that most of the games they played were very hard and competitive, but it was still worth it to be able to play with his team. “We did have a lot of new people on the team who were new to lacrosse, but they all stepped up and performed very well when we needed them to,” he said. Hollyfield added that his favorite moment of the season was “beating Las Llomas because they had a much better record than us, and we were not expecting to win, and winning that game allowed us to qualify for the playoffs.” After the playoffs, the team ended the season with a record of 5-11. Even though their record wasn’t as good as it had been in past years, their determination and hard work throughout the season made all of it worth it.

Girls Lacrosse
Girls’ lacrosse had an exciting and competitive season this year, starting the season with a seven-game-long win streak. “We had some really good rival games that [were] really intense,” defense player senior Catherine Appleton remarked. The girls’ lacrosse team played hard this season: “Most of the games we either won by one or two, and a lot of games went into overtime,” Appleton said. “It was a really competitive league, which, in a way, made it fun because you’re working hard and it’s a satisfying win when you get the goal in overtime or win by one,” she added. Appleton described one of these really close and satisfying wins: “Senior night at College Park was definitely a highlight. We were down … It was like 12-7, and we came back in the fourth quarter.” Appleton said she wants the team to keep this spirit for next season. “I would say this is one of my favorite teams I’ve ever played with … I would just hope that people keep the community and love for each other that we had on this team – I think that’s one of the reasons why we were successful.”

Pitcher junior Paige Williams had a great season with a new wave of freshman players. She said she is willing to grow the team to get a better result than the previous years. “We had a lot of seniors last year, but this year we have some new faces, and we’re trying to develop them.” She also noted that this year, the team was playing more offensively than defensively, but they were still able to acquire some home runs. The team in league games had roughly the same result as last year, but Williams said, “We beat people we haven’t beaten in the past years, so that’s awesome.” She also explained her best moment from the entire season, “I hit my first out-of-the-park home run this season…I’ve been waiting on that one for a little bit, so that was exciting.” Williams said that they had worked hard in one of their games when one player was down. She said, “We had a comeback…and the entire team rallied, and we ended up beating that team by, like, one or two runs.”

They have pure talent,” she said. Alford brought up her favorite moment, which was “very emotional after, but the amount of smiles that were on everyone’s faces and how proud everyone was of themselves…everyone came together, and we put on a performance that we didn’t even know that we could do, and we performed our part well.”

We were all just really excited.” Boys Tennis has fought hard through the season, ultimately placing second in the league just behind Miramonte. The team had a strong showing in DAL and even had a finalist, senior and co-captain Linus Wirstrom, who went on to compete in NCS individuals. The team is currently competing in NCS Division 1 and is feeling emboldened by its strong showing in previous tournaments. Sophomore Cade Williamson had a similar positive outlook on the team’s performance. “Our team has really persevered even after losing so many great players going into this year. I could go so far as to say we are tough as nails. [The team] just wants it more than all other opponents,” Williamson said.

Distance runner senior Taejin Chung described the season by saying, “It’s been pretty exciting with a lot of school records being broken and really strong times that are putting us near the top in the state and even the nation.” The team has done very well with only one dual match lost, and many athletes will compete in NCS. Chung also recalled standout performances, including the 800m school record being broken by senior Claire Andrzejek, and the varsity boys team breaking the 4x1600m relay record to set one of the highest national times. Regarding future goals, Chung said, “Going into the next season, I guess get more people to follow the people who have been breaking the records and setting like state leading times.” His favorite memory of this season was “for me personally…breaking 10 minutes in two miles because it’s been a goal of mine for a long time.”

Beach Volleyball
Senior captain Sarita Berkes described the year and said that, “it has been much more competitive…We have a lot more freshmen than usual. We’ve been trying to integrate freshmen and get them feeling comfortable playing the sport.” For her, this year’s performance met expectations set for the team, and they are now focusing on the future. She especially hopes the team can “…keep a competitive atmosphere…We only have three graduating seniors, but just continue the program, integrate freshmen, and continue trying to dominate.” Performance declined compared to past years, but competition is always close. “We’ve not done as well as past years, but we’ve come pretty close to winning every single game,” said Berkes. She listed the team’s best performances: “beating Acalanes, our main rival, and we’ve had tough competition with teams we’ve never played before, like Cardinal Women.” One of Berkes’s favorite experiences this season has been “getting to meet all the new freshmen…Over half of our team is freshmen, so it’s been really fun getting to know them and just playing with a lot of different people,” she said.

When asked about expectations for the team, outside position junior Claes Bell responded by saying, “They exceeded the expectations. We did really well in the league, and I think we’re doing pretty well at NCS.” So far, the team has had great results: “In league, we are fifth right now, and we just won our first round at NCS, so that’s good,” said Bell. A highlight performance for the team was almost beating Northgate, according to Bell. He emphasized that Northgate is “the fourth-ranked team in the nation.” The team also had strong performances against Acalanes, which Bell noted as his favorite moment of the season so far. With more top senior players leaving this year, one of the team’s goals, moving into the next season, is to help junior players improve so they are well-equipped to fill the shoes of those graduating.
