The Asian Culture Awareness Club, or ACAC, run by seniors Adison Schoemehl and Axel Harkavy, hosts a fire noodle challenge every year.
This year, the Fire Noodle Challenge was hosted in D11 on April 24. Senior Nishta Mukundan, the winner of the challenge, enjoyed participating in the challenge. She said she participated because she has a high spice tolerance and because she has “Done the fire noodle challenge for the past couple of years and also my friends run ACAC so I thought it would be fun to try it out.” When asked if she had gotten a prize, Mukundan said, “Boba I think. I think Addison said she’d buy me boba.”
Senior Kai Iwasaki, who also participated in the challenge and achieved second place, had fun as well. “I participated because I like hot noodles and my friends run the ACAC.” Junior Margaux Vuong also enjoyed participating in the challenge despite the high level of spice from the noodles. Vuong participated in the challenge because she enjoys spicy noodles and also forgot to bring lunch.
Many people noticed that more people went to buy the noodles just to eat rather than to participate in the challenge with Vuong saying, “There were not a lot of participants, a lot of people bought the noodles just to eat them for fun.” Iwasaki agreed, saying, “There were a lot of people who got noodles, but there were only five people for the actual competition.” Iwasaki encouraged more people to try out the fire noodle challenge in the future.
