On Tuesday April 28, the boys’ varsity volleyball team concluded their last home game by honoring their five seniors during senior night. After the Frosh and JV teams finished their games against Las Lomas, the senior night celebrations began at 6:30.
The night started with the parents setting up the walkway for seniors in the gym and decorating it with balloons and banners. Then each of the seniors got a turn to walk through the walkway with their family, receive flowers, and have a few nice words said about them by their coaches. After that, they all got to take photos with their families, friends, and coaches to commemorate the event and their time spent on the team. Senior volleyball player Kai Iwasaki explains why senior night was special to him. “Senior night was really special because I felt lots of support from my community. For example, one of my teammates made the seniors’ goody bags with our faces on them, which was really nice, and I also had lots of my friends show up and cheer for me.”
After the ceremony and senior night celebrations, the game against Las Lomas began. As has been a tradition during volleyball senior night for many years, all of the seniors got to pick different positions than they normally do to play in the game. “It was super fun because all of the seniors got to play pretty much the whole time and try out new positions,” says senior player Noah Henry. Henry was not the only one who enjoyed getting to play different positions. “It was really fun to be able to play different positions and move around, and especially to be able to see all of us getting lots of playing time,” said senior Alexander Chng.
After the game, the seniors thanked all of the parents who set up all of the decorations and worked hard all day to make senior night memorable for the players. Senior player Julian Leuder shared his appreciation for the hard work of the parents. “It was really cool to see all of the effort that the parents put in. They spent all day preparing decorations, and they made us personalized volleyballs with our names and numbers on them, which was really special.”
Overall, the boys’ volleyball senior night was a very memorable and special night for the players because of all of the support from family, friends, and coaches, and of course, being able to have fun and play different positions during their game.
