The football team defeated the Knights 20-35, at Las Lomas. Campolindo had a record of 6-0, and Las Lomas was 5-2, going into the game on October 18.

Las Lomas chose to receive the ball to open the game. They scored a touchdown with 5:58 in the 1st quarter.

Cougar head coach Kevin Macy was proud of how the defense responded after giving up the touchdown. “In the first drive we had to settle in and get used to their style of play and then we played solid,” he said.

Campolindo scored a quick touchdown to make the game 7-7.

“We executed very well. The receivers ran great routes. Andrew Zolintakis threw good balls,” offensive lineman Sterling Strother said.

Senior Justin Dunn, wide receiver, punter, and defensive back, praised the team’s consistent offense. “I think every drive we were consistent. We ran the ball, had a nice balance running and passing,” he said.

Las Lomas attempted to kick a field goal on 4th down, but one of the offensive linemen committed a false start. The 5 yard penalty was important, because their kicker left the field goal attempt short. Campolindo started their next drive with 11:14 left in the 2nd quarter.

Las Lomas head coach Mike Downing believes that the Los Lomas team can improve. “We need to just make fewer mental mistakes,” he said. According to Downing, missing the field goal was a mental mistake.

Campolindo scored another touchdown, making the score 7-14.

Las Lomas tried to run the ball on 4th down, but they were stopped. Campolindo scored a touchdown with 1:45 left in the 2nd quarter to make the score 7-21. Las Lomas could not score by the end of the half.

Las Lomas attempted an onside kick to open the second half, which was successful, as the ball deflected off a Campolindo player’s foot. Las Lomas scored a touchdown with 5:13 left in the 3rd quarter. The score was 14-21.

Macy described the onside kick as a fluke play. “It was a fluke thing. It was a line drive and [the defensive players] could not get out of the way,” he said.

Campolindo was forced to punt on the next possession. Las Lomas also punted on their next possession.

Campolindo scored a touchdown to make the score 14-28 with 10:02 left in the 4th quarter. Las Lomas gained a 1st down due to a Campolindo defensive personal foul. They scored a touchdown with 9:02 left in the 4th quarter. However, the Las Lomas kicker missed the point after the touchdown, making the score 20-28.

Campolindo scored again. Then Las Lomas threw an interception. Campolindo turned the ball over on downs due to an incomplete pass. With 3:06 remaining in the 4th quarter, Las Lomas threw another interception. Campolindo was then forced to punt with 1:23 remaining in the game due to a false start penalty. Las Lomas threw an interception with 37 seconds left in the game.

Dunn was proud of the defense’s performance in the game. “We had 3 interceptions, and we had a couple of curtail 3rd and 4th down stops,” he said.

Campolindo ran the clock out to win the game by a score of 20-35.

Even after the loss, Downing was still proud of his team. “I think they showed a lot of heart,” he said.

Campolindo stays undefeated, with a record of 7-0. Las Lomas drops to 5-3. Las Lomas will play at Miramonte on November 1, after their bye week. Campolindo will host Alhambra on October 25, which is the Cougars homecoming game.
