Basketball Waiting for Two-Sport Athletes
December 10, 2011
The boys’ varsity basketball team is missing key contributors due to the football squad’s extended playoff run. Senior Griffin Piatt and Junior Jack Davis, are two double-sport stars spending more time on the field than on the court.
Basketball games started two weeks ago.
According to Piatt, his absence has not affected the basketball team. “They actually won the most recent tournament they were in so they are doing pretty well right now,” he explained.
Piatt’s dedication to football has interfered with his basketball training. Piatt said, “I haven’t played basketball in while so I will be a little rusty when I get back into it.” When the football season comes to a close, he plans to condition himself for basketball by doing personal workouts at Campo or Saint Mary’s College.
Being at football practices and games also deprives Piatt of working with his basketball coaches and teammates. According to Piatt, his coaches are aware of his situation and are supporting him and Davis during their football season. Piatt said, “I miss my [basketball] team a lot.”
Piatt is also an essential player on the football field . In their recent win against Cardinal Newman, Piatt scored two touchdowns. The football team is now competing in the North Coast Section finals, coming up this Saturday, December 10, at the Oakland Coliseum.
