The Campolindo Competitive Cheer team had a Valentine’s Day fundraiser on February 14 to raise money for their upcoming national competition. Currently, the goal is to raise $600 to fund the team’s transportation to the competition, which is on February 26 and February 27. Students were able to purchase Valentine’s themed cookies or a polaroid photo at a photo booth setup in the MUR.

Junior and cheerleader Alex Wittlin said, “The fundraiser is important because it helps the [cheer] team use skills that help us be independent and not have to rely on our parents for money. In the end, we will feel accomplished and the school will also see how involved we are with our fundraising. This helps put the team on a platform and get noticed.”

The cheer team wants to work on skills they might need later in life such as independence and money management, and they also want to be more recognized by the school. Whittlin added, “This fundraiser is very beneficial because as of right now the cheer funds, which we use for things like transportation, are so low on money, talking about double digits.”

The comp cheer team is competing at nationals in Anaheim, where they will be competing against teams from across the country and nation. With the current funds, they would have not been able to afford the competition’s expenses. Now, with the fundraiser, they were able to raise around $350 and are much closer to their goal.

Sophomore and cheerleader Hailey Wilson said, “Nationals [is] such a great opportunity that we have been working hard for all year long, it would have been such a bummer to miss it. I’m so glad that [students were] able to chip in and help us pay for this amazing opportunity.”

Students bought around 300 cookies and some photos at the booth. The team was appreciative for the contributions from their peers and classmates and are very excited to compete at nationals. Wittlin added, “The Campo team is so great, and I’m so glad that we can compete at nationals.”
