This spring, Biology students will be taking a field trip to Truckee, California, to participate in outdoor education activities. The trip will depart on the morning of May 18, with a planned return time in the afternoon of 20 of May.
Outdoor specialists will accompany the students. “They have special instructors. Some of them are from UC Davis and work with Sierra Club scientists,” said Jackman. Students will participate in a variety of activities that will teach them about the history of the environment. Once such activity is a hike near Donner lake.
Biology teacher Roxanna Jackman said, “[The students] go out hiking and gather data by measuring water quality or measuring toads.
To sign up students must complete an application form and pay $380 to their biology teachers.
There was an informational meeting about the trip in room G2 at lunch on Tuesday, November 12. In addition to this, Biology teachers will be promoting the trip by showing their classes a video.
Since last year was the 1st time the trip was offered, there was a limited number of participants. This allowed them to travel by car. This year, teachers hope to have a larger number of students, which will necessitate travel by bus. “We’re hoping to have a bus load of Biology kids and all four biology teachers are planning on going,” said Jackman.
