The publishing of the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) boys’ basketball seedings, on Sunday March 3, was met by confusion from both Campo and Miramonte players and parents.
According to Athletic Director Tom Renno, at the CIF seedings meeting for the Northern California tournament, Miramonte was incorrectly placed into the bracket as the 4th seed, while Campolindo was left out. Renno said, “However, based on the North Coast Section (NCS) policy, since Campo was the higher seed in the NCS tournament, Campo should have been the team that got that 4th spot once Bishop O’Dowd moved up into the open division.”
The seedings were set to come out at 5:00pm on Sunday, March 3, but due to website malfunctions, they did not get published until 5:45pm. When the incorrect information was seen by Campo parents and players, “there was a lot of confusion that surrounded why we did not get in,” said Renno.
Junior Luke Hoyle said, “We thought that it was a mistake and that they would make it up but what made us pissed off was that Miramonte was in instead of us.”
Once the problem was realized, the CIF commissioner “corrected it and put Campo in Miramonte’s place, so Miramonte is now out,” explained Renno.
Campo will play in their first game of the tournament at 7:30 pm on March 6, against Burlingame High School at Burlingame.
