The Campolindo stunt team concluded their season by finishing 7th in the Diablo Athletic League (DAL). The USA Cheer-created sport, stunts, is often confused with cheer, as it includes some moves similar to cheer. Cheer has the most interesting moves, which make it more entertaining, but stunt focuses on the athletic aspect of cheer and emphasizes executing the moves. Stunt became classified as a sport with scoring and quarters. Though stunt has a referee for announcing the points, cheer does not. This is one of the sports at Campo that doesn’t get automatic qualification to the North Coast Section; only a select few schools in the DAL can go. For Campo’s second year of having a stunt team, they have been performing decently well throughout the season.
Freshman side base Megan Polk enjoyed performing stunts and supporting her teammates in their second-to-last game of the season. “It went really well, we did better than we thought we gonna do, and it was fun, our vibes could’ve been higher.”
Athletes from the stunt team are preparing to conclude their season by executing their routines including jumping, tumbling, and forming a pyramid. Back spot sophomore Lia Yee and the team are practicing the last couple of routines for the end of the season. She thinks they are ready to make everything perfect for the last games of the season. “Towards the end of the season, we’re trying to just gain more points from our routines, which means we are just executing it better, and we look stronger as a team, so we are just trying to improve from where we started out.”
Back spot junior Hope Petersil can’t wait to perform their best for the end of the season. “Honestly, we’re gonna work really hard to get better, and we are expecting to play our best game yet,” Petersil said.
As the season concluded, senior captain Maddie Phan was recruited to the newest stunt team at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. In improving from the team’s efforts from last year, Campo’s stunt team is ready to show off their best in becoming a better team than before. They are about to grow their success in the sport for the upcoming years by playing a new competitive sport.
