Girls’ water polo played Miramonte on October 3 and Acalanes on October 9 at the Soda Aquatic Center, wrapping up a week of rivalry games.

The team defeated the Matadors in their 1st league face off of the season. The 1st quarter ended with Miramonte leading, 2-1. However, the Cougars overcame the deficit to win, 11-9.

Senior Katherine Hawkins, who scored 2 goals, said, “We came out flat but then really rallied as a team and pulled through. We knew that we all needed to work together and leave everything in the pool.”

Campolindo secured their lead over Miramonte by scoring 4 goals in the 3rd quarter, and 2 in the final quarter.

The win was a measure of revenge for the Cougars, who lost in the NCS semi-finals to Miramonte in 2017.  Senior Makenna Ferguson said, “The Miramonte game was intense and a fun game to play in. The vibe is totally different when we play them.”

More recently the Campolindo squad was beaten by Acalanes, 10-6.

“After our last game was so close, we really wanted to come out strong and beat them, especially because we were at home,” said senior Grace Younger.

Unfortunately, after battling to a tie score at the end of the 1st quarter with 2 goals by junior Nina Munson, 1 by senior Christina Crum, and 1 by junior Lola Ciruli, the Cougars fell behind.

In the 4th quarter, the Cougars appeared to be making comeback, with a goal by senior D.G. and another by sophomore Tallulah Clancy, but Acalanes tightened their defense and held on for the victory.

“It was upsetting, for sure. They have a really good 6 on 5 and we had a hard time adjusting. But we will be reading next time,” said Ferguson.

The Cougars will face the Matadors again on Wednesday, October 24 at Miramonte High School at 5 pm.
