Girls’ varsity soccer beat College Park on January 11, 2-0. This was squad’s first win against College Park since 2013.

Before the contest, College Park was 4-2-5 while Campolindo held a record of 4-4-1.

During warmups, the Cougars honored injured player Annie Midthun by wearing shirts that said “Annie” on the front and had her number (7) on the back. According to Midthun’s teammate Melissa Wilson, “[Annie] is a big part of the team and we’ll keep her in our hearts.” Midthun tore her ACL and meniscus during the team’s loss against Miramonte on January 6.

Wilson scored the team’s 1st goal 16 minutes into the game. College Park found it difficult to get any shots past freshman goalie Mallory Louis, who was playing in the place of senior Haliegh Goett, who was also sidelined by injury in the Miramonte match.

Wilson scored another goal 24 minutes in.

“[We had a] decent first half [but] fell apart in the 2nd half.. we need to come together,” said Wilson about the team’s victory.

“I feel we are starting to take small but very important steps towards our goal,” said coach Ernesto Silva. “I am hopeful that the victory over CP will give us the confidence and believe that we need to make it into the postseason.”
