Varsity football crushed Concord 38-0 at the homecoming game on October 21.

Before the game, students celebrated at a tailgate party with face paint, cotton candy, and music. Music was provided by juniors Michael Williams and John Ogro, and seniors Spencer Spiering and Hayden Hunt of Jazz Band.

The Cougars accumulated 24 points in the first half, dominating the visiting Minutemen.

After a brief powderpuff football game between junior and senior teams, with seniors emerging victorious, Campolindo added 14 mote points in the second half while its defense kept Concord scoreless.

Senior running back and defensive back Brett Smith said, “Going in, we knew the high stakes that we had, and we knew we had to execute really well. Coming out of the game we’re really happy that we played that well.”

Line coach Ed McCauley was impressed with his squad’s success. “[Concord is] a much bigger school. They’re division one. We thought we were going to have a really hard time and our kids came out and outperformed. I’m very proud of these guys,” he said.

“A lot of people were looking at this game because Concord was supposed to be slated to be the number 1 seed in 2A and people thought we’d be the number 2 seed,” said head coach Kevin Macy. “We’ve had to play some really big opponents, and we’ve had our share of injuries so we were a team that had been fighting to hold on all year long, hoping for a game like tonight. This was one of our highlights of the year to this date.”

McCauley said he was especially proud of the linemen.  “Our line has been struggling because all five seniors graduate last year, so we didn’t have any returning linemen. But today, like Jacob [Westphal’s] throw for 400 yds passing – that’s amazing, and that’s because of our linemen,” he said.

“The defense played incredible and Jacob Westphal, his quarterbacking was really crisp and really precise and confident,” added Macy.
