Injured Point Guard Misses 2nd Half

Starting girls’ basketball player Aubrey Wagner was forced to the sideline in the middle of an 85-43 Campolindo victory over Albany High School on February 23rd after suffering an injury.

“I stepped on a teammates foot and my ankle rolled,” Wagner explained.

“My 1st thought was ‘Oh my God I’m not going to be able to play in the rest of this game.’ My 2nd thought was ‘Oh my god I’m not going to be able to play in the rest of the playoffs.’ I was really scared that I had broken my ankle, which means I’d be out for even longer, and I really, really want to play,” Wagner said.

Art Thoms, the squad’s head coach, was equally worried when his floor leader went down. “I was concerned for her and the extent of her injury,” he said. “She has a huge role on our team; she’s our starting point-guard.”

“I’m probably not going to be able to play as much or as hard. But my team has played without me before, so they know how to step up,” Wagner said.

As it turned out, Wagner was back in the lineup for Friday’s game against Sonoma Valley.
