From Nov. 12 to 14, the Freshmen Fall Festival took place during lunch on the football field and in the big gym. The festival consisted of bubble ball wars, musical chairs, and a pie eating contest.
Freshman class officer Kevin Borman explained how the idea for the festival was conceived. “Each year, the freshmen class officers get together to talk about ways they want to build community within the class, and this year we decided that doing a festival would be a fun way to connect everyone.” All the work and planning from the class officers paid off, with the festival attracting over 150 freshmen. “We spent about a week planning all the activities and making sure that everything was set up correctly. It definitely was worth it because the festival went much better than any of us expected,” Borman said.
The first day of the festival was bubble ball wars. Held on the football field, freshmen students who participated wore large, inflatable bubble suits to run and bump into each other. The last person standing won. Freshman Patrick Curran said, “The bubble ball wars were super fun because we could compete against our friends.” Many students enjoyed the activity because of its athletic and competitive aspect.
The second day of the festival consisted of multiple games of musical chairs. About thirty chairs were set up in the gym, allowing for many freshmen to play, win candy, and compete with friends and classmates.
“Musical chairs was really fun because of all the people there and because of how competitive it was. There was also candy being given out to the winners and music playing which made it even more fun,” freshman Quinn Cohen said.
The third day of the festival consisted of a pie eating contest that took place in the big gym. Freshman class officer Greta Welcome said, “It was kind of chaotic because everyone was trying to eat the pies as fast as possible but it was really fun to plan and watch it.” To prepare, a few groups of freshmen got into pairs and sat in a chair, one person sitting in the front and in the back. The person sitting in the back was blindfolded and trying to feed their partner pie as fast as possible so they would win the contest.
“Overall, it was a huge success because we had lots of students show up and I think it was a really fun bonding experience for our class,” said Welcome. Lots of hard work and dedication was put into the festival by the freshmen class officers to create an energetic, fun, and competitive atmosphere for the freshmen.
