On Friday Nov. 7, Leadership hosted the Cultural Fair, an annual event to highlight the rich cultural depth of the student body. Throughout the afternoon, Cougars walked around the Big Gym, sampling ethnic treats and enjoying presentations prepared by affinity clubs. Stands lining the bleachers showcased traditional foods and cultural histories, offering a window into the lived experiences of Campo students.
Junior Emma Canga is Co-President of the Filipino Affinity Club and was a participant in the cultural fair. “It’s really cool being able to see everyone’s culture,” she said. Cultural Fair provides a unique opportunity for the student body to be curious about other cultures in a safe space. Outside of affinity clubs, opportunities for students to interact with so many cultures in one accessible place can be rare, making the cultural fair the perfect setting for them to interact with new cultures for the first time.
Junior Nitin Ravikumar, Vice President of the South Asian Student Union, shares Canga’s sentiment. “Campo is a multi-faceted community with a lot of different cultures. We’re a melting pot, so this cultural fair really highlights that,” he said. “By bringing all these cultures into one room, it allows for people to experience the best parts of our cultures here at Campo.”
Students look forward to every year, not just for food and festivities, but for the moments of interconnection it fosters. It reminds Cougars that Campo’s strength lies in its diverse range of cultures, perspectives, and stories that shape its community.
