Vocalists came together for a showcase of music called the “Pops” Concert, in which every choir group had the opportunity to perform. Students, parents, and friends were invited to the performances on January 26 and 27 in the CPAC.

This year’s show included a broader range of choir groups participating and a guest director and choreographer, Kevin Redrico, who made arrangements for the set performed by Chamber Choir as well as other numbers. Redrico accepted the invitation to be a part of the program from Mark Roberts, vocal instructor.

Freshmen Chorale opened the evening with “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon, arranged by Mark Brymer. “I think it went pretty good,” said freshman Chorale member Aislinn Welch. “Everybody’s energy was kind of higher than it had been in rehearsal, so that was pretty fun.”

Freshman Chorale member Alexandra Yokomizo agreed. “We had a lot more energy than in rehearsal,” she said. “Everyone had a lot more projection.”

The Women’s Ensemble began the next set with “Halo” by Beyoncé and “Ex’s and Oh’s” by Elle King.

Chamber Choir’s set included “Sugar” by Maroon 5 and “Stressed Out” by 21 Pilots.

Bel Canto added “Try” by Colbie Caillat and “Dear Future Husband” by Meghan Trainor.

Concert Choir wrapped up the performance with “Any Way You Want It” by Journey and “I Lived” by One Republic.

The show was arranged and rehearsed in just the three weeks preceding the event. “I think it definitely pushed us to work faster and harder,” said senior Chamber member Justine Bon. “But I think in general, you know, the audience was super fun to sing for, and it made it easy to just kind of go up there and have fun with it.”

“I feel like the energy coming from the choir students really made me want to move,” said freshman Natalie Baier, a member of the audience. “It really made me want to sing along.”

Freshman Arine Kim was impressed with the production. “I think it was the best that they had done,” she said.

The concert concluded with all vocalists coming together for “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” by Justin Timberlake.

“I really enjoyed the performance,” said freshman Chorale member Drew Shellen. “I felt like everyone just really went for it, and it was just a really great experience.”
