Halfway through the second semester, with the third quarter coming to an end, students are busier than ever. There’s always more tests to study for, more homework to finish, and with APs on their way it can feel never-ending. Where does Campo hang out to take a break?

There are so many different places to choose from. Freshman Emma Chartier visits multiple cities often. First she discussed a city in Hawaii, with a rather large fish market, where she spends a lot of her time when visiting the island. “I go to this restaurant there. The fish there is really good,” she said. “I love going to this place because it’s always above 70 degrees. There’s amazing, wonderful people, the restaurants are great and there are a ton of cats to pet.” Chartier said a city she visits closer by is San Francisco. “I go to the Ferry Building, or I go to my dad’s office often,” she said.

Freshman Aila Doyle says she also loves visiting San Francisco. Doyle visits cities often, especially for her brother’s hockey games. She loves visiting Japantown in San Francisco with friends or her cousin. “[We] like to visit their Japantown – specifically a small shopping center with a bookstore and a few Japanese restaurants within because I enjoy their cooks and they make really good crepes and ramen.” Doyle also shared, “[my family] likes this hole-in-the-wall Chinese bakery–I really enjoy their char siu bao and egg tarts.”

Another one of Doyle’s favorite spots is the bookstore Kinokuniya. “Kinokuniya [has] a lot of great selections from overseas by some of my favorite authors that are hard to find in the U.S. normally,” Doyle said. Doyle added that sometimes she’ll “study at a random cafe while my dad does legal work in Oakland. Other times I’ll visit this specific cafe near UC Berkeley because it was where he bought coffee when he was in college.”

Freshman Rachael Schonfeld prefers to visit San Francisco too; however, she normally chooses to visit during the holidays. “I go to the theater place in San Francisco because there are official Broadway musicals and I love seeing them with my family. We go to fun little restaurants afterwards,” she said. “During Christmas time we usually go to Ghirardelli Square there. One time we went to see Hamilton,” she recounted.

Schonfeld also enjoys visiting Berkeley. She said, “I love thrifting…I like the vibe there, especially on Telegraph because there’s record stores and thrift stores and book stores, a lot of fun stuff like that.”

Many students find cities fun and relaxing places to visit with friends or family.
