As the 2025-2026 school year draws to a close and students begin preparing for finals, few people think about the younger siblings that will lose their built-in best friends to a new life away from home.
Freshman Audrey Kawamoto’s older sister Lauren is leaving for George Washington University to major in International Affairs. Kawamoto said, “I’m excited for her because she works pretty hard and I’m excited to go visit in DC as well.” Even though Lauren is going far away, Audrey feels like it’s a good fit because “…we went to DC over the summer to look at other schools there.” While she doesn’t have a specific favorite memory with Lauren, Audrey enjoyed growing up with her and will miss her when she’s off in D.C.
Sophomore Liam Ramsay-Leavitt’s older sister Izzy is leaving for Utah to attend the University of Utah. While he is looking forward to it on Izzy’s behalf, he says, “I’m kind of sad that she’s going to be gone. I’m going to miss her around my house but I think it’s going to be exciting for her and I’m excited for her.” His favorite memory with Izzy is when they were at their grandma’s house and they built a fort by nailing fallen logs together.
Freshman Anna Garrity’s older sister Erin is looking forward to her time at San Diego State University where she will be majoring in Sociology. Anna is excited for her sister to go to SDSU because she loves the beach however she is “…also really sad because that means I’m going to be the only child in the house which means I won’t have her to take me places and basically have my best friend in the house.” She will always remember going out to lunch with her and getting smoothies or açai bowls. Anna is, “…sad that she’s leaving but happy that she’s going to be somewhere she’s going to be happy.”
Despite losing the best friends they have known their entire lives, many Campolindo younger siblings are excited to see their older siblings leave and go to a new place where they will have fun and be able to be near things they enjoy. And even though they will miss them, younger siblings will always cherish the memories of them growing up together.
