Football Crushes Moreau Catholic in 1st Game of Season
Campolindo’s varsity football team started their season strong with a win against Moreau Catholic High School at home on August 26, with a final score of 28-17.
Varsity quarterback senior Dashiell Weaver said, “It was great to be back. The 1st game being a home game and coming out with a win, it was just a lot of fun.”
Campo scored the 1st of many touchdowns halfway through the 1st quarter. Weaver completed a pass to wide receiver senior Robbie Mascheroni, who ran it into the end zone. Both Campo and Moreau Catholic scored 1 more touchdown before half-time, resulting in a score of 14-10 at the half.
Cougars kept up the energy going into the 3rd quarter and ended up scoring 2 more touchdowns, with Weaver completing passes to linebackers seniors Robby Horst Charlie Murrin.
Although Campo did not gain any more points in the final quarter, Moreau Catholic was able to score a touchdown before the clock ran out, ending the game with a final score of 28-17.
Head football coach Kevin Macy said, “It was good for us in terms of getting a stiff game, but you know we still had this issue of fumbling 3 times. We know we’re young and we are just going to have to find ways to keep cleaning up what we do.”
With the team more junior-heavy this year, their dynamic and chemistry have been altered. Varsity wide receiver senior Brendan Comerford said, “Last year our team was pretty senior-heavy, so we have to kind of build relationships with the new juniors. Over the last few weeks, our chemistry has gotten a lot stronger.”
Cougars have an exciting future of games ahead of them and are most excited to “see a lot of the fans at the games. The high energy and cheering gets the team going,” said Weaver.
