Football Wins 1st Game of the Season
Campolindo’s varsity football team started off the season on a high note, beating Moreau Catholic High School at Moreau on August 27.
Junior Robbie Mascheroni said, “Our mindset for the upcoming season is just to gain another week, stay in the present, don’t get too excited, and just to take every week step by step.”
Moreau and Campo were tied 14-14 after the 1st quarter. Then, the Cougars scored 4 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter, bringing the score up to 42-14.
With the momentum gained from the 1st 2 quarters, Campo scored another touchdown in the 3rd quarter with 6 minutes left. Moreau scored again in the final quarter, however, the final score was ultimately 56-2, with the Cougars triumphing.
Senior Adam Harper attributes the win to “A lot of hardwork and dedication over the offseason… We’ve each been working and it really showed off last week.”
Mascheroni said his mindset has not changed since last Friday. “You still [have to] treat every game like it’s a new game, and what happened in the past happened in the past,” he said.
“I think this season will definitely be a lot more fun than last season because the crowd brings a lot of energy to the players, especially the students,” said Mascheroni. “It should be a lot of fun this year.”
Harper added, “We’re really excited to get everyone back out there and show them what Campo football is all about.”
Campolindo Football had its 1st home game on September 3 against Aptos High School.
