Cougars Defeat California High in 1st Preseason Game
The varsity girl’s volleyball team beat California High School in the 1st game of the varsity volleyball preseason at home on August 19.
Head Coach John Vuong attributes the team’s win to “[w]orking hard in practices, team support, communications, positive attitudes, and having fun playing for the home crowd.”
The Cougars won the 1st set 25-18. They carried on with that momentum winning the 2nd set 25-22. The 3rd set’s score was back and forth throughout; Campolindo ultimately triumphed, winning in overtime 28-26.
Junior Olivia Woo said, “The 3rd quarter was pretty nerve racking…. We were just going point by point… I tried not to look much at the score and just focus on what best to do at the moment…. We felt absolutely amazing after we won… I am super excited for the actual season.”
Senior Grace Doane is also excited for the upcoming season since there has been great communication and connection despite the team spanning all grades.
“We are getting together really well… We span all grades but we are doing a great job connecting and acting as one instead of individuals,” said Doane.
Vuong’s mindset for the season is “to learn and improve every day, be better than yesterday’s mindsets, always work harder than your opponents, and set small goals for the individuals and the team as a whole.”
Junior Bella Montero said, “We worked together really well in the game and our communication was better today than in practice… After this game, I am definitely more confident for the actual season”
The varsity girls’s volleyball official season starts September 21.
