Girls’ varsity water polo defeated Marin Catholic 14-3, with a strong offensive approach. The game was played at the Soda Aquatic Center on September 24.
“Right now we are 7-1; so far it’s been a good season,” head coach Kim Everist said.
Senior Hannah Buck explained that the game preparation was unusual because Marin Catholic was an unfamiliar opponent. “We don’t normally play Marin Catholic so we didn’t really know much about them coming into the game. But we always want to go into a game confident, play to our best ability, and hopefully we’ll come out on top,” she said.
At the end of the 1st quarter, the score was 5-0, in favor of the Cougars.
Marin Catholic head coach Sophie Waldron said that scoring a goal against the Cougars is a difficult task. “Campolindo’s goalie [Maddy Tagg] is a wall; she’s hard to get through,” she said.
At the end of the 2nd quarter, Campolindo led 7-1.
“I guess I would’ve adjusted faster. I would’ve switched the defense probably in the second quarter. It’s just we’re in the first couple of games, so my team, we’re still kind of adjusting. We’re getting there,” Waldron said.
According to Everist, her team showed their talent across the board.“We have great speed, so we’re a really fast team. We have really good outside shooters, we have excellent goal keeping. This year we have really great team chemistry and so I think the team’s just having a lot of fun and that helps generally with our overall game,” she said.
In the fourth quarter, both teams scored 2 goals.
Although Campolindo won with an impressive score of 14-3, Buck said there’s always room to improve. “There’s always stuff you can work on. I don’t know if there’s really something specific that stands out like “oh my god we’re going to die” if we don’t fix it. But there’s always things you can work on to improve and get better at,” she said.
