Swimming Continues NCS Title Streak

Boys’ swimming earned an 8th consecutive section title, outscoring cross town contender Miramonte. The girls’ team placed fourth.

Juniors Sven Campbell and Steven Stumph broke several records at the NCS meet. Stumph broke the record in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 54.06 and the record in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 1:47.63. Campbell broke the 100 meter backstroke, 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle records.

Head swim coach Ronnie Heidary said, “We couldn’t have just relied on Sven and Steven to win NCS for us. Everyone contributes; we are a team. Every time [a swimmer] gets up on the block they have to know that their swim matters and that they should do their best.”

The Contra Costa Times named Sven Campbell, Steven Stumph, Grant Sivesind, Tor Jensen, Robbie Ashby, Mary Ashby, Sam Flower, Brooke Presten, Hannah Grubbs and Alison Stevens to the All-Section Team.

Bradley Rochlin, Dylan Fara, Kimi Klein, Annika Jensen and Niki Jackson, although not competing, all went to the section meet to support their team. Rochlin said, “I’m very dedicated to my team. I would skip school and go to a meet I’m not even in.”

Stumph said, “My main rival was Charlie Wiser from Miramonte and I was thinking to myself during my races that I had to beat him.”
