At first glance, our Lamorinda community feels like an entirely different world. The rolling hills that frame Campo stretch beyond what the eye can see, pieced together like a mosaic beneath an unwavering sun. Every morning, we step onto a campus surrounded by open possibilities – a reminder that the future is even wider than what we might imagine.
The start of a new year carries that same boundless energy. Seniors finalize plans and anticipate milestone trips, while students from all grades enter their classrooms, prepared to challenge their own perspectives. Across campus, ambitions are taking shape and advancing; college decisions, leadership roles, new goals, and yet, we are still not immune to the fractures. Beyond our hills, political polarization and global instability continue to run realities. Discussions of the Venezuela crisis in AP Comparative Government and Ethnic Studies, highlighting both history and identity, remind us that our evolving world is one of continuing complexity.
How do we enter a place that is fractured and battle-torn? How do we prepare ourselves to eventually exit the red, white, and blue halls that have been our shelter? Amid deadlines, practices, expectations, overwhelming doubts and beautiful dreams, it can be easy to collapse under the pressure. But, in that same pressure lies opportunities for growth. Through engagement we are constantly reshaping ourselves, not just in the classroom, but also beyond in what we choose to embrace and what we know our limits can be.
As this spring semester kicks off, remember that we are boundless in our potential, at times broken by pain that makes us human, and beautiful because we continue to grow through it all. It is important to take a moment and look up at the hills that inspire us to reach out for the world post-graduation and maybe even sooner. Consider the stories unfolding both within and beyond our campus. Know that each of us is a piece capable of standing on our own, but that we can become even more courageous, more giving, and more impactful when we allow ourselves to join the picture.
On behalf of The Claw staff, I hope that this issue encourages you to reflect on the ways that we are all individually, and collectively, boundless, broken, and beautiful. 2026 is a new year to celebrate, to grief, and to question the cycles that continue to turn. And in it all, there is a place of firm ground for each of us to stand on.
