Academic Competitors Headed to State Championships
March 14, 2013
Campo’s Academic Decathlon team is headed to Sacramento on March 14 to compete in the 34th Annual State Competition.
“We’ve been studying hard, and we hope to do well,” said co-captain Laura Gustafson. According to junior Marina Han, the team met 5 times a week, along with teammates independently studying.
The team will arrive at the state capital on Wednesday March 14, and the tests will be held on March 15 and 16.
On the first day of competition, teams will contend with 7 multiple-choice tests, ranging from Science to Language & Literature. Competitors will have 30 minutes to finish each of the tests. According to Gustafson, the hardest test will be the Math test.
The final day of testing will have students participating in the Super Quiz Relay, an event where teams will answer questions on the spot. There are 3 divisions: Honor, Scholastic, and Varsity. Teammate Christoph Steefel will be competing at the Scholastic level. “It’s nice to be Scholastic, because it”s easier to win awards and contribute to the team,” he explained.
On the 17, awards will be presented to the winning teams.
