Wood Tech students have been working on projects to be entered in the Contra Costa County Fair, where they will be judged against entries from other schools. The County Fair takes place in June and is open to submissions from students of all grade levels. There are divisions for large pieces of furniture, smaller pieces such as boxes, and turnings.

Instructor Don Dupont said that 9 of the 12 years he has had students participate in the fair, and one of his students has won best of show. Dupont said, “The Contra Costa County Fair is purely voluntary. Some students started their projects last year. Other students haven’t started and some have already finished their projects.”

The California State Fair is also on the horizon. Dupont said, “The problem with [the California State Fair] is that it happens in the middle of summer and I’m usually not around.” However, Dupont is requiring all of his senior students to enter a project in the State Fair. Their projects must be submitted by the end of May.

Senior Daniel Ingersoll has recently finished a desk that he will enter in the County Fair. Senior Dayna Silvani has created her own design of a coffee table that she wishes to submit for the contest. She has come up with the proper drawing to build and fabricate it. Dupont said, “If she does it as well as I think she can she will have a very good chance of winning a prize for it.”
