Goblin up Candy: Students Share Their Favorite Halloween Candy

As Halloween approached, students shared their favorite and least favorite Halloween candy. Students had a wide variety of favorites from chocolatey to fruity and everything in between.

Freshman Theo Walden said that his favorite candy is “probably Sour Patch Kids Watermelon because it tastes really good” while freshman Aria Falsafi claimed that “[My favorite candy] is KitKat because it is really chocolatey.” Walden and Falsafi’s favorite candy is the opposite from each other, one being fruity and the other chocolatey. Walden added, “[My least favorite Halloween candy] would probably be Hershey’s.”
Walden added, “[My least favorite Halloween candy] would probably be Hershey’s.”

Falsafi went on to say that, “[my least favorite Halloween candy] is definitely Red Vines because Red Vines have no flavor.” Many can agree that Red Vines are towards the bottom of their favorite candy list.

Falsafi’s favorite candy was a chocolate candy and his least favorite candy was a fruity candy while Walden’s favorite candy is fruity and his least favorite candy is a chocolate candy. They seemed to have the opposite taste in candy.

“Warheads [are my least favorite candy] because they’re disgusting,” claimed freshman Whitney Koplan. But she went on and said, “I like those Sour Punch straws, they’re just super fun to get.” Warheads were often disliked for their intense sour taste. Sour Punch straws were sour as well but were a much less intense sour and their straw form made them fun to eat and exciting to get each year on Halloween.

Both Falsafi and Koplan agreed that “The best candy comes from the big houses.” where full size candy bars are often handed out. Full sized candy bars definitely got students more excited and ready for Halloween.

(she/her) Freshman Laiba Khan is a Journalism 1 student writing and taking photos for The Claw. Although Khan has little journalism experience, she is very excited about the class and contributing to The Claw. Khan joined the class because she was interested in learning more about journalistic writing. She also found that “everyone was just so nice” when she visited the journalism room during the freshman open house.   Outside of school Khan is very interested in baking and lacrosse. Over the Covid lockdown, she started to find recipes and eventually opened her own business. This spring Khan plans on joining the girl's lacrosse team as a first-time player and can't wait to learn more about the sport.
