From movie characters to witches, Campo students got into the spirit and planned their costumes for Halloween. While some chose their outfits months in advance, others thought of ideas at the last minute.
Senior Delaney Joyce decided on being a firefighter, “I decided on my Halloween costume two days ago, I was going to be something else but then it didn’t work out and so I had to switch it up at the last minute. Two of my friends were being it and it was super easy, I didn’t have to buy a whole lot of new stuff.”
Many students had trouble deciding on what they wanted to dress up as. But, turning to internet resources such as TikTok helped spark many costume ideas.
Senior Molly Dougherty said, “Tim [Daugherty] and I are being Squints and Wendy the Lifeguard from the Sandlot.”
Dougherty explained that she chose the costume because “[I] saw it on TikTok and it was a good balance of costumes where it is original in a way where hopefully people will know what we are, but we won’t be the same as anyone else.”
Freshman Colby Webster decided on his costume Thursday October 26, “I am going to be a lifeguard and I decided yesterday. I just hope the whole costume comes in time.”
From costumes to festivities, students each had their own way of celebrating Halloween, often with friends. Sophomore Mckenzie Khan shared her plans for the holiday, “I am going to be a witch with two other of my friends. We are all volunteering at a Spook Alley this weekend so we are going to lead little kids through this building so they can get candy.”
While many were excited for this year’s Halloween, some also enjoyed looking back at past celebrations.
Dougherty and Joyce both reflected on past Halloween costumes. Dougherty said, “I really liked my superwoman costume from last year for our soccer tournament. I love dressing up because I feel like it is a holiday where everyone (families, people, gradesa) dresses up, it is not a weird thing. You get to go trick or treating, and it is a fun throwback to your young age.”
Joyce’s past costume reflected her personality, “I was Laffy Taffy one year and I was also Little Miss Chatterbox one year, from the Little Miss books. In second grade everyone would say I was really talkative and super chatty.”
Junior Owen Ludwig reminisced on one of his most memorable Halloween costumes, “My favorite past costume was in elementary school. I was a taco man and I had a taco thing and had little tacos with little confetti in them so that was pretty creative.”
For many students, Halloween brought up memories from their childhoods. Khan remembered, “One year my mom and I were mice and my dad and my sister were cats. It was so fun because my mom and I would run around the neighborhood and my dad and my sister would chase us.”
Students also shared why they chose to dress up for the holiday. Joyce said, “I think it’s fun because everyone is doing it so you don’t feel weird about wearing a crazy outfit.”
Ludwig added, “I like dressing up for Halloween because it shows spirit, gets your mind off of things and the candy is good.”
Khan agreed and said, “I like to dress up because it isn’t something you get to do everyday.”
Whether it be to make new memories with friends, remind them of their childhoods, or simply to have fun, many Campo students dressed up for Halloween.
