Campolindo alumna, Cam Country (Camaron Marvel Ochs), has taken the country music industry by storm as a successful, genuine songwriter. She has made her way to collaborations with renowned artists like Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, and Sam Smith helping to write the songs shaping music’s current era.
Cam Country is Ochs’s stage name, but growing up in Lafayette she was known as Camaron. Cam participated in the Campo choir before graduating and attending UC Davis to study psychology. At Davis she formed an all-girls cappella group, The Spokes, and was also involved in psychology research. After graduating she continued researching psychology at UC Berkeley and Stanford University before becoming a full-time musician. By pursuing academics to such a high, extensive level, Cam, as a result, went on to demonstrate the multi-dimensional quality of her individual spirit.
Cam released her first independent album, Heartforward, in 2010. Two years later she moved to Nashville to further pursue her music. In total she has created five albums and some of her hit songs include “Burning House,” “Till There’s Nothing Left,” and “Forgetting You.”
One of Cam’s notable achievements is the songwriting she did for Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album which won her an Album of the Year Grammy at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. She co-wrote AMERIICAN REQUIEM, PROTECTOR, DAUGHTER, TYRANT, and AMEN.
Cam has also been performing concerts and her most recent one took place at the Bimbo’s 365 Club San Francisco venue on Friday Nov. 14th. Attendees sat at small tables in the jazz bar setting.
Succeeding as an artist in the musical industry is no small feat and Cam has worked hard to rise up without letting humble beginnings or career challenges determine her path. Her resilience and commitment to her craft can inspire current Campolindo students regardless of what their passion may be.
