On Oct. 24, 2025, Advanced Art Honors recently finished a new and exciting project after working on it for roughly around 2 weeks: a tunnel book.
Sophomore Josie Kelly described a tunnel book as “having to make at least four panels of art and using any medium that you’d like. You draw, color, or paint the scene and then you cut out each panel and lay them into a book format so that it creates a 3D piece of art. It’s supposed to be a scene from one of your dreams, something you did over summer, or one of your favorite movies.”
Kelly has been taking art for two years. Her favorite part about art is “the freedom to listen to music and eat snacks and talk to friends while also locking in and having access to different art materials.” Kelly “really [likes] the Campo art program” and said it is a great “creative outlet.”
Kelly noted that one of her favorite parts about the project is that it “is in 3-D…[they] don’t normally do that.”
Junior Ciel Speckman has also been taking art for two years and calls it “a nice break from [her] day.” She said her favorite aspect of the project is that it is getting to “use any medium that we want.” It is “the first project this year where we have been able to [do tha].” said Speckman. She also enjoyed getting “to experiment with more materials.”
Speckman’s theme for her project was “a gothic scary Halloween vibe, kinda inspired off of the Addams Family or a Tim Burton movie”.
Junior Kiona McCasland has been taking art for three years. One of McCasland’s past projects was “when [she] did a gouache illustration, which is a type of paint, and was able to experiment with a different medium than [she] used before. McCasland “created different fruits and vegetables which [she] tried to make look realistic.” McCasland called it her favorite project to-date.
McCasland’s theme for her tunnel book was based on “dreams and memories.” Her favorite aspect of creating the tunnel book was the painting piece.
When asked what she would like to do in future projects, Speckman said she “really wants to start working on bigger canvases and is interested in exploring acrylic paint.”
By working on the tunnel book, Advanced Art Honors students were able to express their creativity through a project that allowed both expression of personal experiences and the use of various mediums.
