The game was at home and drew a big crowd. The student section provided electric energy to the teams, cheering after every play. Many players enjoy the Acalanes game because they get to see friends from Acalanes and also enjoy the intense rivalry.
Freshman player Tea Miller states her opinion on the rivalry. “I was excited to see people who I know from Acalanes and have a competition with them because I think it’s fun to have a rivalry. It was also fun to have people come watch us and cheer us on.” The hundreds of students in the stands showcase Campo’s school spirit, especially in such an important game against their rival.
JV sophomore player Mia Avocolli says, “This is a really fun game because Acalances is our rival, so we all want to beat them really badly, and we have a huge passion for this specific game. However, since they’re our rival, it is more nerve-racking and there’s more pressure because there are more people watching us and everyone wants us to beat Acalanes.” Before the first game of the season, players look forward to rivalry matches, which include the Acalanes’ game. It is the same for fans who cannot attend all games but try to make it to games like the Acalanes one.
Many students also enjoyed attending the Acalanes game and supporting the teams. Over 75 students came to cheer on Varsity in the student section. Sophomore Diana Cardenas explained why she loves going to the Acalanes game. “I try to go to all the home games because I love watching volleyball. But the Acalanes game is definitely my favorite to watch because I love the rivalry and supporting the Campo teams – especially during the biggest rival game of the year.”
Senior Varsity player, Evey Uziel, also loves playing in the Acalanes game. “The Acalanes game is so fun because they’re our nemesis, and it’s always fun to play your nemesis. I really like the big crowd because it fuels me to do better, especially if the Acalanes student section is yelling at us.”
The Campo vs. Acalanes games are always a fun and exciting rivalry night for players and students who get to cheer them on as they take down Acalanes. It is also better when all three Campo teams win their games ot add on to their successful seasons.
