The 2025 spring sports season brought forth a new team to Campo: STUNT the Sport. STUNT, a team similar to cheerleading, consists of short routines performed the exact same way against other schools, where teams work towards points for execution and ability.
The sport entails six separate routines, with increasing levels of difficulty as teams move up. Each routine includes partner stunt, pyramids and tosses, jumps, and tumbling. Teams perform against each other at the same time, both competing at the same level.
While the sport is new to Campo, many other schools such as Acalanes and Miramonte have had teams for numerous years. Freshman Hannah Buchman notes that the team’s biggest challenge this season was that “all of the teams we were playing against were super experienced and already had some of the routines memorized from the previous season.”
Despite being pitted against strong competitors, Campo was able to beat rival Acalanes, with a score of 10-6, with many players noting the win as a highlight of the season. Sophomore and STUNT captain Alana Bacher mentioned, “it was a big success because they’ve been doing STUNT for a while, and it’s our first year.”
When asked what her favorite part of the season was, Bacher said, “getting to know the sport and learning a bunch of routines. It’s a lot of new skills that are super fun.” Throughout the season, teams learn and perfect their routines for games.
While the team didn’t perform during games as well as they had hoped, Bacher notes that, “now that we understand the sport, we understand how it works, we understand how we’re judged, we have a better chance of winning.”
Sophomore Hope Petersil believes a success for the season was “being able to get a lot of the stunts…people have been really good about being a team.” When looking towards the next year, Petersil is excited for “getting more stunts down, and having people who are more experienced.”
The inaugural season has been a success for Campo, with everyone reaching for greater achievements for the next season. Buchman mentions, “It was so amazing to be a part of a team with such amazing, kind, and hardworking people, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is planning to join next year!”
