After a long and impressive baseball career in the Lamorinda area and beyond, Will Myers has committed to Occidental College.
Myers’s passion has been baseball since he started playing at the age of 3, beginning with tee-ball and transitioning to baseball with various Lamorinda leagues. “I played Moraga Baseball until I was about fourteen. Then I’ve played with some different travel teams; I played on a team in Texas and played on a baseball club called Zoots for my sophomore and junior summers.” He described his experiences with these different clubs as a big aspect of where he is with his sport today, especially as he formed connections with his teammates and coaches throughout his baseball career.
Junior Luke McLeod, a player on the Campo baseball team with Myers, emphasized this as well. “Will and I have been playing together for about three years now, but we’ve always been in the same leagues, so I’ve known him forever.” McLeod also noted that Myers contributes to the Campo team “just with the energy that he brings to the field and the team when we’re down.” Myers’s teammate and fellow senior, Jonathan Wang, also praised Myers: “I’ve played with Will for a long time; I would say at least seven to eight years. He’s improved in all aspects of the game because he puts in a lot of hard work. He’s definitely a leader on the team, and people look up to him, especially the younger kids.”
Occidental College, located in the heart of Los Angeles, proved the best match for Myers, who stated, “When I went [to Occidental], my visit was great. I got to meet the team and a bunch of students there, and I think that the people there and the campus itself were a great fit.” Concentrating on the baseball aspect of his upcoming collegiate life, Myers added, “The class sizes were great, the food was great, and I really really liked the coaches, definitely made the decision a lot easier.”
“I’m really happy for him because I know he’s wanted to play baseball in college for a long time, and he’s been working really hard toward this goal, so I’m glad he was finally able to achieve it,” said Wang, and McLeod agreed as he stated, “We’ve been talking about it for a while now. He was telling us that he was going to commit, and it’s a great place to be in, down in Southern California.”
“Definitely my teammates, coaches, and my parents motivated me the most,” Myers said as he talked about the people who motivated him to continue with baseball. “My parents have been the biggest aspect for me because they know how much I’ve really wanted this dream ever since I was a little kid. They have definitely helped me become the best version of myself whether it’s cooking food for me, driving me to practices, all sorts of stuff.” When asked about what he’s looking forward to the most about his upcoming season, Myers commented, “Right now I’m really looking forward to this baseball season, one final ride with my best friends for life, so I’m really excited to go out there and try to win an NCS championship.”
