Junior Aveya Stone has committed to California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) for volleyball after an impressive high school and club career. Stone began playing volleyball at the age of 9 after “starting at a small recreational clinic in Clayton.” Stone noted that she “enjoyed the team aspect of the game,” and that she “works well in groups.”
As she furthered her competitive career, she joined her current club (Absolute Volleyball Club) after playing at a smaller club for six years. Stone noted that she switched to Absolute because she “wasn’t able to pursue [her] college aspirations because the level of competition wasn’t that high.” Since the age of 14, Stone has been a part of Absolute and noted that “it is a big time commitment, but it’s all worth it.”
Stone decided that Campolindo was the best place to pursue high school volleyball after she “went to a Miramonte volleyball game and a Campolindo volleyball game and noticed that the atmosphere in the gym was completely different.” Stone noted that “it was a hard choice for me to make moving away from all my middle school friends and everyone that I knew, but I knew that it was what was going to be best for me.”
Since joining the Campolindo team, Stone has earned the respect of her teammates and formed strong friendships with them as well. Senior and fellow varsity volleyball player Riley Regan said “[Stone] is one of my best friends. She’s so fun to have on the court.” Regan also noted that “she has become a smarter player on the court and has become physically stronger.” Senior and fellow varsity volleyball player Hanna Bjornson also expressed admiration for Stone: “she is like a younger sister to me and we’ve been through many ups and downs. I’m excited to see her play at the next level and wish her the best.”
Stone has decided that “[she] will likely major in either business or marine biology,” and “feel[s] lucky that [she] has committed in [her] junior year.” Stone expressed her excitement for Cal Poly when she said, “I really just feel at home the most and know I will enjoy the next four to five years of my life.”
