Lacrosse Suffers Big Loss vs. Acalanes
The Campolindo Varsity Boys Lacrosse team suffered a tough 14-4 loss against Acalanes on February 28 at their opponent’s home field. The game, especially because it was against a rival, was “disappointing,” said team captain senior Harrison Leenhouts.
The game wasn’t a complete shut-out, even though it came close. Campo managed to score their first goal late in the second quarter, after Acalanes had already managed to achieve a 7 point lead.
Sophomore Griffin Tetz, who scored the first goal for the cougars, remains optimistic. “It felt good, it definitely felt better than any other goal because it was against Acalanes. We were down at the time, so we really needed it.” He was one of the few people on Campo’s team that was getting excited. He tried to use his goal as a momentum-shifter, “I was trying to get the team hyped, trying to turn the tables.”
Tetz seemed to be much more optimistic than his teammates. Leenhouts was upset by the outcome of the game. “I was obviously very sad. I was disappointed in the team effort and my individual effort. I feel like we weren’t on par with the standard that we set for ourselves; I was just a little disappointed and angry.”
Leenhouts also scored a goal this game, but his reaction was much more nonchalant than Tetz. “It definitely didn’t hold as much weight as goals from other games. I feel like both my team and the opposing team had given up at that point; it was garbage time.”
For the next match against Acalanes, Leenhouts expects a much better performance from his team. “If we are able to play them again, I expect that our team will have learned from this loss, hopefully we can grow from it,” said Leenhouts. Tetz, unlike his captain, expressed strong feelings about the next time Campo meets the Dons, ”next time we play Acalanes, either this year or next year, I honestly expect a close game, or a win.”
Sophomore teammate Sawyer Reicher also expressed optimism for the next time they play Acalanes. Reicher said that that game “put them in the right direction,” noting that Campo is undefeated in the games that have followed.
