Senior Maddy Doane has verbally committed to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she plans to participate in NCAA track & field.

Doane, who set 4 school records this spring, was interested in attending UCLA long before she started running track. “…I had an eye for UCLA. It’s a great school and it has great programs all around in sports and graduate school. When I saw that I could have a chance at going to UCLA and my times were kind of with everyone else’s I got really excited and wanted to talk to the coach”

Doane’s verbal commitment came after the May 1 college decision deadline for non-athletes. According to Doane, the deadline for athletic commitment is June 20.

Co-Head Track and Field coach Tim Hunter believes Doane “was waiting for opportunities that she really liked” and she “wasn’t going to settle.”

Hunter also noted, “she will have people to chase in practice everyday so that will be a whole new experience for her.”

High school teammate freshman Emily Hatch is inspired by Doane’s accomplishments. “It’s amazing that she is able to get into a school that’s that good especially for running. [Running in college] is definitely something that I can aspire to knowing maybe I can work myself hard enough a get myself into a college like Maddy.”
