Girls’ Lacrosse Honors Seniors, Beats Acalanes

The girls’ lacrosse team honored its 8 senior players before defeating Acalanes 13-9 on May 2.  The win pushed the squad’s record to 18-1.

“This was a hard fought game,” said head coach Dave Parker.

The Cougars scored several early goals against the Dons. By the end of the 1st half, they held a commanding lead, 8-4.

“We felt like if we could control the midfield, we would do well against them,” said Parker. “We clearly had the advantage.”

While Campolindo won the game, Parker felt that his team lost some momentum in the 2nd half.

“I think we calmed down a little in the 2nd half,” said senior Claire Cimino.

Parker noted that honoring the seniors may have contributed to the emotional fatigue his squad showed in the later stages. “There were a lot of emotions swirling around this game,” he said.

The team’s seniors included Grace Burnite, Amanda Moellering, Cimino, Ellen White, Peyton King, Abigail Burns, Olivia Price, and Sarah Fass. The players were introduced with their families and received a bouquet of flowers.

“I thought it was really fun,” said White.”It was a really nice way to end our season.”

Parker believes that his younger athletes are ready to step up and fill the shoes of the departing seniors.

“Next year, we’ll have another successful season,” said Cimino.

“It will be hard to replace our leaders, but we’ve got a lot of good young players,” added Parker.
