Boys’ Basketball Ready for CIF Run

Boys’ varsity basketball had a busy off season after last year’s wildly successful campaign that landed them in the California State Championship game.

According to senior returning player Sean Yamamoto, the team “already had a lot of preseason games” over the summer to stay in good shape. “We just want to get off the right track, with an attitude of hard work and effort,” he said.

Head coach Matt Watson said that the team’s main goal would be to “get the state title again, and win this time.” Last year, Campolindo made it to the quarterfinals of the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) playoffs, losing to El Cerrito 70-59.

“We’re not the biggest team, which is probably our weakness,” said Yamamoto. “We make it up with hard work and effort.”

Watson added that the team’s strengths included great shooting and defense. Some key players will be returning athletes like seniors Austin Clark, Will Hicks, Adam Beeri, and Yamamoto; according to Watson. “They. . . dominated to the state game [last year.] They come with knowledge,” he said.
