The track and field team traveled to rival Miramonte to compete in a dual meet against the Matadors and the Acalanes Dons. The girls’ frosh soph and varsity squads defeated both schools, while the frosh-soph boys trampled Acalanes 113-21, but lost 75-61 to the Mats. The varsity boys suffered a rare double defeat.
“Evan Amsden cleared a PR [Personal Record] of 11 feet,” in the pole vault said field coach Scott Brady-Smith. “Miranda Protzen cleared 9 feet, and Avery McCafferey cleared a personal record of 8 feet,” he added.
The the girls held off their rivals, not everyone was satisfied with the performance. Sophomore Lauren Williams said of her scores, “On the 100 meter, I started out kind of slow, so I didn’t do that well. I got a 12.99 and my best is a 12.93. On the 200m I also started out kind of slow. Long jump I didn’t do my best. I think I got 14-4.”
Others thought they improved from previous meets. “I feel like I did my personal best,” said sophomore Ariana Gonzales, who placed 2nd in the 400 with a 72.02. She added, “I tried to run past somebody, which I didn’t achieve. But it helped me to not get behind.”
“I think I PRed,” said freshman Anya Li of her triple jump score. “I got a 27-6. I usually get a 26-something.”
Li, who is in her first year of track and field, also participated in running events. “I ran the 4×1 relay and the 400m. I did pretty well. In the 4×1 I got 2nd, and in the 400m I also got 2nd,” said Li.
“I’ve warmed up better than before. Usually I kind of slacked off on the warm ups, but I’ve started taking them more seriously,” explained Li.
Both girls’ squads remain undefeated, and frosh soph boys have just one loss. All three teams are in the hunt for league titles.
Campolindo will host the league championships the week of May 11th.
