In a nail biting final few minutes that saw Las Lomas scoring 2 goals, girl’s lacrosse held off the Knights 10-9 on Tuesday evening, extending their win streak to 5 games.
The contest against Las Lomas was held at Campo on March 17.
“We did well with our plays and midfield transitions,” said freshman Liv Lagomarsino. “We went into overtime last year [against Las Lomas], but we lost.”
Las Lomas struck early, scoring the first goal of the game within the first minute.
However, the Cougars retaliated, and by the 6-minute-mark, the score was tied at 2.
The two teams were neck and neck until the Las Lomas pulled ahead at the end of the first half, scoring two goals in the final 2 minted before the break. The score at halftime was 6-4, with Las Lomas looking like the faster, more confident team.
“[We could have worked on] talking to each other,” said junior and goalie Keeley Hobson of the Cougars’ struggle to control the ball at the end of the first half.
In the 2nd half, Campolindo’s offense came alive, scoring 5 consecutive goals. With three minutes left in the game, the score was 10 to 7 in favor of the Cougars.
Though Las Lomas came back to within 1 score of a tie, the Cougars held on, holding onto possession as time expired.
“I had my ups and downs, but in general I think I did really well,” said Hobson. “Teamwork was really the key.”
The Cougars now find themselves at the top of the DFAL [Diablo Foothill Athletic League] standings. They face perennial powerhouse Miramonte in a home game on March 20. Las Lomas faces Dougherty Valley on March 2o.
