Boys’ volleyball is moving on in the regional Norcal competition after defeating St. Patrick’s/St. Vincent’s (SP/SV) in the semifinals on May 22. After losing the 1st set, Campo came back to win 3 sets a row, ending the match in 4 sets, and allowing them to advance to the finals.
After losing the 1st set only 23-25, Campo won the 2nd set 25-14. The next games ended 25-18 and 25-19, giving Campolindo the 3 sets needed for the match win. While SP/SV was able to match Campolindo point for point early on, the Campo rallied with successive points at the end of the last two sets.
According to Varsity coach Dave Chen, the game demonstrated the team’s determination. “They weren’t playing their best game, and they found a way to win. Their mental stability was very important. They were able to play well and stay focused when they knew they weren’t playing well,” he said.
Varsity player Nicholas Obrand was excited about the team’s win. “They did well as a whole. They rocked it against a tough team,” he said.
This is the 1st time there has been a Norcal competition for boys’ volleyball, although Campo has won North Coast Sections for the last 3 years.
Norcal finals are Saturday, May 25 at Dublin High School at 5.
