6 divers from the Campolindo, Las Lomas, Acalanes, Miramonte (CLAM) diving program are moving on to North Coast Sectionals (NCS) from the league championships, which were held at Campolindo on May 11. Sophomore Morgan Matranga took 1st with a score of 420.05, while senior Alyssa Parsons took 3rd with 351.60.
The CLAM diving program is made up of divers from each of the four district schools. CLAM competes as one team against other schools. At the DFAL meet, only the top CLAM divers moved on to NCS.
Matranga has been diving for 5 years, and was happy that the team did well. “Everyone worked really, really hard today. It was great to earn points for the team, and I’m really excited for NCS,” she said.
According to Parsons, the team got a new coach, Eric Gillbrecht, this year. “That’s been a little stressful, but other than that it’s been a good year. Everyone’s been doing really well and lots of people are learning new dives,” she said. Gillbrecht is assisted by Marie Estorge.
Gillbrecht believes that everyone on the team dived well at the meet. “In diving it’s not just about one dive, it’s what you do consistency wise, and everyone grew in that aspect,” Gillbrecht explained.
Matranga said, “I loved our CLAM diving team this year at Campo. Everyone’s really close and it’s a really fun team.”
Sophomore Chester Halstead feels that the season has been really enjoyable, and that everyone performed well. “I think everyone’s pretty happy with the dives that they’ve done, and it’s been a good turn out and a good meet,” he said.
The NCS Championships will take place on May 16 at the Concord Community Pool at 7 am.
