Varsity baseball defeated Las Lomas 3-2 at Campo on May 7.
“Las Lomas played well, but our pitcher Trent Shelton pitched a very good game,” said senior utility player Ryan Hooper.
During the 5th inning, Las Lomas loaded the bases with no outs. “I just tried to focus on 1 batter at a time, knowing that I’d make the right pitches and knowing that the defense would make the plays behind me,” said pitcher Trent Shelton.
The defense held up and Campo gave up only 1 run.
According to coach Max Luckhurst, other players key to the team’s success were junior infielder Denis Karas and Hooper. “It was a team sport and everyone on the team did their job,” Hooper said.
According to Luckhurst, the team is currently in 1st place in DFAL, with a record of 8 wins and 1 loss. Overall, the team has 14 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie.
“I’m never secure in a win until the last out is made,” said Luckhurst.
Hooper believed they gained confidence after winning against Miramonte 3-1 on March 21. “Ever since we beat Miramonte in our 1st game against them, we felt really good and we haven’t lost since,” said Hooper.
“We’re just looking to keep on a roll,” Luckhurst said. “We just have to keep on trying to win games.”
Campo plays Dougherty Valley on May 14, Dublin on May 16, and starts NCS Playoffs on May 21.
