Varsity boys’ basketball fell to Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory on Saturday March 16 in the NorCal tournament final, just one step away from the state championship game.
The Cougars trailed for most of the NorCal final, but tied up the score, and then took the lead on a three pointer with less than a minute to play. But Sacred Heart made a 3-poiter of their own to send the game into overtime, where they went on to win, 55-52.
Campo finished the season with an overall record of 22-9 and a league record of 9-3.
“It’s pretty upsetting because we were so close,” said junior Luke Hoyle.
Turnovers were the Cougar’s downfall, according to junior Ryan Smith. “We outplayed them, but the turnovers dug us in a hole,” said Smith. “And there was some pretty poor officiating.”
Sacred Heart continues on to play St. Augustine High March 23 for the state title.
