Boy’s soccer lost their first game of Diablo Foothill Athletic League against Acalanes on December 5. While the first half of the game was scoreless, in the second half the Dons netted 4 goals for the win.
Campo put Acalanes on the defensive with the ball on the Acalanes’ side of the field for most of the first 10 minutes of play. Senior Rodrigo Diaz-Valez said, “The game could’ve gone either way. We had our chance to put the ball away at the beginning of the game. What we have to take away from this is that we have to stay mentally strong.”
Junior Ramin Nazeri said, “It was a tough loss. Most of their goals were made in the last five minutes.” Acalanes player Ben Croze scored off a tap in with just a few minutes to play. Acalanes junior Mark Helfrich shot the last goal of the game from 28 yards out.
According to Diaz-Valez, there are a lot of young starters on the team. “We lost our entire offense from last year,” he explained.
The team is also working on different formations and focusing on maintaining possession. Junior Spencer Nichols said, “We need to possess more and take our time, but at the same time, be more aggressive.” According to Nichols, the team has been preparing for the season by conditioning as well.
