The Nightmare before Celebration • The Nightmare before the New Year
As the autumn months finally fall behind us, cold weather and shorter days mark the start of the winter season. With warm clothes (and finals stress) enveloping students, the beginning of winter can often signal an abrupt shift toward both a cozy feeling of comfort and school-induced stress.
For seniors who’ve finally made it to the finish line when it comes to college applications, the nightmare of juggling time writing essays and balancing school work has amassed to what many call “senioritis.” For juniors and sophomores – preparing for finals in rigorous AP and honors classes – the feeling of apathy for school has led to a desire to flee what can feel like a constant workload. And for freshmen about to embark upon their first final exams at Campo, a sense of uncertainty has furthermore allowed stress to fester across campus.
But just as the feeling of anxiety surrounds the end of the first semester, it’s important to look back and reminisce on past achievements. Whether it be fall sports triumphs, concert performances, or the growth of new and returning clubs on campus, Campo’s many successes from 2024 provide a unique opportunity for students in the 2025 school year: to try something new.
Even in times of stress, the tradition of a new years’ resolution allows people to embrace a sense of optimism and growth to combat the feeling of exhaustion. By creating a goal for the new year – whether it be studying more for a particular subject, expanding one’s social sphere, or taking up a new hobby – we can each fend off our own worst nightmares to seek a fresh start.
Here at The Claw, our first semester was met with a smaller staff size and the challenge of adapting into video format with the launch of Red C TV. However, with all of the stress that has come from undertaking such feats, we’ve also been able to harness new mediums of media and expand our journalistic creativity for the upcoming year. We’re excited to announce that you can now find news broadcast videos about Campo students by Campo students on Red C TV’s YouTube page, under the name Campo Red C TV.
So with that, on behalf of The Claw’s staff, we wish you all good luck on your upcoming final exams! Remember that although there may be things in life that we cannot change, it’s crucial that we focus on the positive and find comfort in embracing growth. By tuning out the nightmares of our lives, we can each push ahead to 2025 with a sense of power and celebration.
