UNICEF Club Organizes Bake Sale at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School
On Saturday, Sept. 20 2025, members of the UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) Club headed out to Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School to host a bake sale.
Vice President of the UNICEF club, junior Madison Watkins, said that “we did two bake sales last year and they were very successful.” All the money earned from the bake sales goes to supporting the UNICEF organization.
President of the UNICEF Club, junior Lindsay Foster said, “[UNICEF] helps out around 100 million children a year globally and that includes getting them into classrooms, getting them vaccinated.”
Foster created the UNICEF Club the summer of her sophomore year. She thought the club would be a great opportunity to “help kids in need”. Foster commented that “we didn’t have a chapter at Campo even though [Acalanes] and [Miramonte] both have UNICEF Clubs.”
Freshman Lelu Schmidt joined the UNICEF Club this year on Club Day.
Schmidt volunteered at the bake sale because “[she] wanted to participate and meet new people.” Schmidt said the bake sale was successful and “did sell a lot of baked goods”. When asked if she plans to participate in another bake sale in the future she replied, “Yeah, definitely!”
Watkins explained how the price of the baked goods was determined: “We do a ‘pay what you want’ […] this helps people figure out what they want to donate towards UNICEF […] it also tends to lead to more generous donations since we let them know about UNICEF’s mission and how it helps children around the world.”
Foster said that the club had done a few activities to raise money for UNICEF in the past including a donation drive for toys to send to the UCSF Benioff Hospital, and a trick-or-treat for UNICEF event. The club plans to repeat the trick-or-treat this Halloween.
When asked if she had any closing remarks Watkins said, “Join UNICEF Club! It’s pretty awesome!”
